Welcome to our newest mosaic challenge... Mythical Creatures! The PieceMakers never cease to amaze me. Give them a challenge, and each artist will come up with something so different. This one will be just as hard as all the rest to vote on. :) Congrats to all the artists who are participating... each piece is wonderful & inspirational!

"Her name is 'Binweed' and when I googled a fairy name generator to help name her, I plugged my name in.....and it appropriately said that Binweed brings good fortune, lives at the bottom of tangled gardens & hedgerows and is only seen when the bees swarm and the crickets chirrup. She wears tangled multi-colored skirts of petals and has wings like a butterfly."

The piece measures approximately 9"X11".

"The picture depicts a set of hummingbirds, and the style is Kwakiutl, northwest coast Native American. Kwakiutl mythology says:
The Hummingbird symbolizes Love, Beauty, Intelligence, a Spirit Messenger that represents friendship and playfulness. Represents Tireless Joy and the Nectar of life.
The Hummingbird is also a symbol of good luck and good fortune. It was considered a positive sign to spot a Hummingbird just prior to some major event such as hunting or traveling to another village. Hard workers and fiercely independent. Hummingbird teaches us how to find the miracle of joyful living from your own life circumstances.
A hummingbird flies like sunlight."

 Flower Goddess
"Flora, a flower goddess, she is a little bit mysterious, a little bit exotic, and doesn't really like her picture taken.... She is happiest living among the flowers of her world."
Materials: vintage tray, tumbled dish shards, beads, vintage jewelry, metal flowers from a discarded lamp.

My mosaic is based on a drawing (see it below!) that my 7 year old, Priya, created. It's of the ever elusive "Happy Mouse". Here's what Priya had to say about this Mythical Creature, that apparently children all over the world are quite aware of:
"His name is Happy Mouse. He comes out of the woods when he thinks that kids are sad. He makes them happy again because he's a rainbow and full of love."
